No Buy= No Fun

Am currently on a no buy (will have been 4 months when it ends in April) , which I'm finding very difficult (hence all the FOTDs and reviews of products that have been out for a while). OCC lip tars are now available in the UK (and I like all of them), Too Faced and Urban Decay also have products I want to try out and there are a load of other things I want to try and it is becoming very hard to resist. I suspect that denial makes the compulsion to spend much, much worse and that I will end up spending a fortune when I allow myself to buy again. The worst part is that I am going abroad twice this summer (Sweden and Belgium- trips to the Makeup Store and MUFE are unavoidable) and since I am a full time student, pay my own tuition fees and haven't got a job I need to be careful.

Is it actually possible to stick to a no buy or does everyone break them?

  1. I absolutely failed at my no-buy and have basically just given up. I hope you do better than me! I got a few more lip tars for my collection :)

  2. On the day my no buy ends I need to get a few things namely lip tars, some stuff from illamasqua, hakuhodo china glaze and sugarpill (that last one is down to you btw) I will no doubt be straight back on my no buy within a matter of hours, but the way I look at it spending help the economy and is just what the country needs.

  3. Yea I'm a big FAIL when it comes to no-buys. But what I would suggest, instead of going cold turkey entirely, maybe just limit yourself to 1 or 2 things per month, or just when you go to MUFE or whatever, so you don't end up going crazy later. And then you can talk yourself out of going nuts by telling yourself that you will enjoy one good item more than trying to spread your self too thin over a bunch of different things. I hope that makes sense- but either way, good luck! :)

  4. That does make sense, I'm looking at it like this: I have certain items that I still really want even after having an extended cool off period, instead of doing my usual buying for the sake of it (I have a box full of things I didn't even want at the time and haven't got round to selling yet and stuff I thought I had to have at that moment and by time I got home was wondering what I was thinking). I now have 3 lists (1 is full of stuff, 2 has the stuff I want the most off of list one and list 3 the stuff I really want the most off of 2) and I might timetable it so I buy something every couple of weeks (up to say £20) and get the use of it as a priority rather than having several lipsticks and being unable to decide which one to use 1st.
